In now-ancient history (1976), Professor Bernstein taught me anti-trust law and told the best jokes. I've forgotten much of the law, but remembered many of the jokes. I didn't practice anti-trust law upon graduation, but the excellent attitude and humorous example Neil set for his students proved a wonderful model to emulate. His jokes still evoke laughter, and the memories he provided his students still bring smiles, as well. The world can ill-afford the loss of yet another good and decent man. With sympathy to his family, M. Fagan

We will miss you, Neil. You were a good colleague and friend. I know that all of us miss your sense of humor, your outspoken views, your great zest for life. May you rest in perfect peace, and Marcia, may you and your family be comforted by the warm memories you have of a life that was well and fully lived. Much love, Leila Sadat, Andrew Ruben and family

Marcia, you, Neil and I had a reunion of sorts just a few weeks ago at Lifelong Learning. I am so grateful to have had the chance to share a few moments with you both. He sounded so good that day! He will be missed by so many of his colleagues and students.

Professor Bernstein was a good man and good teacher. I, and so many others, are better people and lawyers because we knew him, and because he was so willing to share his vast knowledge freely upon request. I am saddened by his loss, but I take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit will live on in the many minds and lives that he touched.

I had Professor Bernstein for two classes at Washington University. He was as passionate about his subject matter as he was his students. He made the world and the Wash U community a better place.
