Barton L. Jones, 75, passed away surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, November 14, 2012.
Bart was born December 28, 1936 in Artesia, New Mexico to the late Herman and Velma (French) Jones. He received his Bachelor of Science degree and his Masters +30 in Education from McNeese State University. Bart faithfully served his country for three years, one of which was during the Korean Conflict. He wed Georgette (Misse) on February 2, 1963. Bart was a long-time member of Henning United Methodist Church of Sulphur.
He was the ultimate educator. Teaching was one of his many passions and Mr. "B" taught for about 15 years. His face would light up as his students would learn about math and science at Maplewood Jr. High where he also coached gymnastics. For 10 years, Bart was the manager of Burton Hardware & Sporting Goods. He also managed the meat market for Misse's Grocery in Sulphur for 10 years. He was a "jack of all trade" and "master of all." Bart was a self-taught plumber, carpenter and electrician. He truly loved hunting and fishing and all the joy from being outdoors. Coin collecting, hunting for arrowheads, wood carving and leather stenciling were among his many hobbies. Bart was an accomplished photographer, and he developed his own film. An avid reader, Bart enjoyed being able to listen to audio books from the La. School for the Blind after he lost his eyesight.
His survivors include his loving wife of almost 50 wonderful years, Georgette Jones of Sulphur; daughters, Joelle (Pat) Darby of Carlyss and Linley (Dr. Bert) Richert of Sulphur; five grandchildren, Brandon and Kaitlyn Darby, and Grace, Leah and Owen Richert; sister Patsy (J.B.) Conley of Albuquerque, NM; nephew Mike Conley and niece Karen Conley of Albuquerque, NM.
