Christian Douglas Abshire, 16, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011, in a Houston, Texas hospital.
Christian was a native and lifelong resident of Sulphur. He enjoyed building things, especially with legos, and also enjoyed going fishing. He had a great sense of humor and often played jokes on the hospital staff. Christian was very kind-hearted and caring, always being more concerned for others than himself. His genuine sweet spirit will always be remembered by anyone who knew him.
Survivors include his mother, Jeanie Taggart of Sulphur; his father, Donny Abshire and wife, Stephanie, of Lake Charles; his sisters, Kirsten and Kiley Abshire of Sulphur; step-brother Dezmenn Reich of Lake Charles; maternal grandparents John and Debra Taggart and paternal grandmother Katie Abshire, all of Sulphur; great-grandmother Betty Jean Hungerford of Lake Charles; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Allen Abshire.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, in Maplewood First Baptist Church. Dr. Ronnie Burke will officiate. Visitation is Monday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., all in the funeral home, and the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time of the memorial service Tuesday in the church. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Texas Children's Hospital for the excellent care of Christian.
