Eunice Stevens Obituary

Eunice Isabelle Stevens, born Eunice Isabelle Myers on October 29, 1921 in Robert, Louisiana, passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Friday, November 06, 2009 in a Sulphur hospital. Mrs. Stevens was the second eldest child and the eldest daughter of a beautiful family of two boys and five girls.
Mrs. Stevens was greeted in Heaven by her parents, Rody Conrad Myers and Nettie Breland Myers, her brother Ottis Myers, her younger sister Evonne Myers Fairburn, by her loving husband of 48 years, Carl R. Stevens, Sr. and her eldest son, Carl R. Stevens, Jr., her son-in-law, Derrill Eugene Conley of Port Neches, Texas, and by two beautiful grandchildren, Megan Galosi and Steven Eugene Conley.
She is survived by three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Lois Bernard, Mrs. Daisy Magee, Mrs. Bernice Terrell and Mr. Ray Myers and wife Betty, all of Covington; eight children, Mrs. Carolyn Conley of Port Neches, Texas, Mrs. Barbara Murray and husband Richard of Picayune, Mississippi, Mr. Larry Stevens and wife Marty of Lake Charles, Mr. Glynn Stevens and wife Beverly of Jennings, Mr. Charles Stevens and wife Deborah of New Ulm, Texas, Mrs. Sheila Miller and husband Kenneth of Lafayette, Mr. Rodney Keith Stevens and wife Margaret of Sulphur, and Mrs. Susan Galosi and husband Matt of Katy, Texas. She is also survived by 17 loving grandchildren, 30 exquisite great grandchildren and one beautiful great, great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be several of her grandsons, Michael Conley, Jared Stevens, Brian Stevens, Greg Stevens, Chris Stevens and Blake Miller.
Mrs. Stevens' life revolved around her children. She was a loving and devoted mother to all nine of her kids and is cherished by each. As a young person, she grew up in a rural community working on a farm and walking to school. She and her sisters loved to go to dances; her favorite dance was the two-step. She played basketball with her sisters at Champ Cooper Junior High and graduated from Hammond High School in Hammond , Louisiana. She got her first driver's license when she was in her sixties. After her children had moved from home and her husband had passed away, Mrs. Stevens worked as a sitter for the elderly for many years. She went through life always working to help others and is surely doing the same in Heaven. She never complained in life, nor in death; she was to her children and all who knew and loved her, fearless.
She will be missed every minute of every day by all who knew her. The statement echoed by each of her children is, "we love you, Mom!"
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Her son, Charles Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
