Rita Mae Picard, 83, died at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in a local hospital.

Rita lived in Sulphur since 1953 and was a native of Rayne. She attended Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Ladies Alter Society. She was also a member of the Our Lady of Prompt Succor Choir, The Happy Harmonize of Lake Charles Auxilary and the Cajun French Music Association. She was on the Board of Directors of the Retired Senior Volunteers and was active with the Calcasieu Council on Aging. Rita also volunteered at Care Help. She was a Pink Lady with the Calcasieu Cameron Hospital Ladies Auxilary and was with the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxilary.
Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Rita Picard of Sulphur and Donna M. Hilburn and husband David of Iowa; brothers Leroy Breaux of Rayne, Roland Breaux of Rayne, Curley Breaux of Baton Rouge, and James Guidry of Prairieville; and grandchildren Brad Picard and wife Amanda, Chris Hilburn, and Erin Hilburn.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dave W. Picard, and son Allan Picard.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward Richard will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday with a rosary at 7 p.m. and from 11 a.m. Saturday until time of service, all in the funeral home.
