Donald Davis Bass, 82, of Wildwood, Fla., died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Gainesville. He was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Trenton, Fla. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Coleman. Mr. Bass was a farmer who enjoyed growing watermelon and was known by everyone as "The Watermelon King." He enjoyed music and singing Country Gospel. Mr. Bass was a resident of Wildwood since 1975 and loved his family. He is survived by his loyal wife and constant companion since 1978, Azelee "Faye"; sons, Wayne (Marti) Bass of Leesburg, Ronnie (Jackie) Bass of Wildwood, Michael (Linda) Bass of Dunnellon, and Billy (Tina) Bass of Rock Hill, S.C.; daughters, Renee (Gary) Morse of The Villages, and Dana (Christopher) Beauchemin of Hartford, Conn.; step-son, Terry (Billie) Howe of Rock Hill, Conn.; step-daughter, Lisa (Greg) Bailey of Rock Hill, Conn.; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Marlene Bass. A visitation was at Trinity Baptist Church, Coleman, Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Services followed with Pastor Mark Reichard presiding. Interment was at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1040 Woodcock Rd, Palmetto Building #119, Orlando, FL 32803.
