Harry Frederick Hawkins, 89, of Wildwood, Fla., died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Sumterville. He was born July 8, 1923, in Buffalo, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
from December 1942 to November 1945.He also worked for Mobil Oil in manufacturing, exploration, and production. Mr. Hawkins was a lifetime member of the DAV of Lake Panasoffkee, Scottish Rites for 55 years, the Masonic Lodge #30 of Bushnell, American Legion Post #101, Tin Can Sailors, the USS Gatlin Reunion Association, and he attended St. Francis Episcopal Church in Bushnell. He enjoyed playing golf, going to ship reunions, hunting, and fishing. He also lived in Turkey, Singapore, Indonesia, and Nigeria. He is survived by his son, Mark H. (Martha) Hawkins of Lake Forest, Calif.; daughter, Gail Tompkins of Tarrytown, Fla.; grandchildren, Patrick (Vanessa) Tompkins of Wildwood, Jeffrey Hawkins of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Lindsay Tompkins of Beville's Corner; great-grandchildren, Kaylie Wheatley of Wildwood and Jesse Wheatley of Wildwood; and sister-in-law, Carol K. Hawkins of Inverness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jean Hawkins; son, Chris F. Hawkins; and brother, Earl H. Hawkins.
