Former Sunbury Resident

Elizabeth K. "Bebe" Conant

Elizabeth K. "Bebe" Conant, 90, of Delaware and formerly of Sunbury, passed away early Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Willow Brook Christian Village.

Bebe was born on June 18, 1923, in Sunbury to the late Cecil and Zella (Scott) Knoderer. A graduate of Sunbury High School in 1941, she resided in Sunbury for 78 years.

On November 28, 1946, she married the love of her life and husband of almost 64 years, Donald P. "Dan" Conant, mayor of Sunbury from 1988 to 1991. Together, they raised their family in their beloved community of Sunbury. With a deep and abiding love, they were the best example and model of marriage. In 2000, they moved to Delaware and became active members of the Willow Brook Community. Never apart and always side by side, they shared a wonderful life caring for each other's needs until Dan's passing on September 20, 2010. For 21 years, she worked as a secretary for the Big Walnut Schools where she put the needs of others before her own with boundless energy. A gardener in her youth, nothing went to waste. She canned all she could making wonderful dishes, relishes and jellies. She constantly provided dishes for events and parties including her sought-after minced meat pie.

Bebe was at her best with a needle and thread. As a skilled quilter and an extremely talented seamstress, she not only crafted award winning quilts but also provided clothing for her growing family. She was a member of Sunbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years and a member of William Street United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Whatever Bebe put her heart into she made special — her marriage, home, family, friends and communities of Sunbury and Willow Brook. A wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, she will always be remembered for her warm smile, love of family and life.

She is survived by her daughter: Chrystal (Lee) Blanton of Worthington; son: Scott (Rebekah) Conant of Fort Mill, South Carolina; grandchildren: Paul (Carrie) Blanton, Troy (Alpa) Blanton, Cpt. Caleb (Lacey) Conant, Clifton Conan and Rene (Matthew) Burcham; brother: Anson Knoderer; extended family members and by many cherished friends.

Bebe was preceded in death by her sister, Elsie Gantt.

Services were held at Willow Brook Christian Village. Private interment took place in Sunbury Memorial Park. Arrangements have been entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Delaware.

Her family prefers memorial contributions be sent to Willow Brook Memorial Fund, 100 Willow Brook Way South, Delaware, Ohio 43015, or to Heartland Hospice, 685 Delaware Avenue, Suite 200, Marion, Ohio 43302
