GALENA — Lester Carroll Bradford, 81, of Galena, died Sunday, August 17, at his home surrounded by family and friends.

He was born Aug, 22, 1932, in Baron, Oklahoma to the late Charles and Florence Bradford. He was a 1951 graduate of Westville High School in Westville, Oklahoma; student body president; prominent in football and baseball; and was voted "best eye lashes." Lester was a living legend as a dozer operator for Shepherd Excavating with 25 years of loyal service, retiring in 2005.

"A heart is not measured by how much you love, but rather how much you are loved by others." To know Lester was to love him and he never knew a stranger. Lester had a great passion for his Oklahoma Sooners Football Team, his Herford cows, Arabian horses, Farmall tractor and his beloved 22 acre farm in Galena. However, his two greatest loves were his beautiful and caring wife of 59 years, Ruth, who he married May 31, 1955, in Arkansas, and his ever growing family.

Lester is survived by his wife, Ruth; children Terry (Bob) Smith of Galena, Jeff (Connie) Bradford of Galena, Lisa (Travis) Thomas, of Marengo; step-son Gary (Cathy) Hignite of Miami, Oklahoma; grandchildren Bob (Ravena), Ben (Jenny), Nikki (Jeremy), Chris (Misty), Kila (Jimmy), Jessica (Ed), Jennifer (Adam), Taylor, Haley Jordan, Adam and Tiffany; great-grandchildren Danielle, Cameron, Jacob, Garrett, Cori, Tyler, Owen, Raine (Amber), Riane, Dylan, Alexis, Autumn and Lane; an expected great-great grandson later in August; brothers Robert Leon (R.L.) Bradford, of Orangevale, California., Charles Bradford, of Sunbury, John Bradford, of Southwest City, Missouri, and Wayne Bradford, of Westville, Oklahoma; and sisters Kathleen Kinnan, of Oakdale, Nebraska, and Pat Nelson, of Westville, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by brothers Jess Bradford, A.G. Bradford, Chester Bradford, Donald (Gabby) Bradford and Mac Bradford; and sisters Leora Imboden, Rowena Bradford, Lydia Mae Bradford, Jenny Coughran, Pauline Miller and Emma Lee Tumio.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, S.R. 3 at 61 in Sunbury, where services will be held Friday 12 p.m. with Wayne and Monty Bradford officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Northlawn Memory Garden in Westerville.
