Former Sunbury Christian Church Pastor
Pastor Norman W. "Norm" Gendt

Pastor Norman W. "Norm" Gendt, 84, Bradenton, Florida, and formerly of Sunbury, was received into Heaven and joined the company of God Friday morning, January 25, 2013, while at the home of his son near Richmond, Virginia.
He was welcomed into this world on November 18, 1928 in Hickman, Pennsylvania, a son of the late August and Katie (Kramer) Gendt. After graduating from Bridgeville High School in 1947, he proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
With a degree in theology from Kentucky Christian College in 1959, Norm began a lifelong ministry of serving God's people. With his wife Doris by his side, he served and ministered to the congregations of Sugar Creek Christian Church and Carter City Christian Church in Kentucky, Bowersville Church of Christ in Ohio, and then came to the Sunbury Christian Church in 1963, where he served as pastor for 16 years.
Preaching was always Norm's main love, and even though he went on to work for ODOT as a material controller in the testing lab, he continued to minister. From that time until 2011, he ministered in various interim capacities to 28 different congregations, most recently as the Senior Adult Minister of the Westside Christian Church in Bradenton, Florida.
Norm's other passion was golf and if you asked, he would humbly tell you about the two holes-in-one that he had! His warm and engaging smile and heart will long be remembered, as will his gentle nature. Not only devoted to God, he was also devoted to his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend. "To know him was to love him" and what a legacy he leaves.
Those left to cherish his memory include Doris, his beloved wife of 61 years; daughter Linda (Jim) Worrell of Indianapolis, Indiana; son Bart (Christy) Gendt of Richmond, Virginia; grandsons Kevin, Brady and Jimmy Worrell, Brandon and Alex Gendt; brother Elmer Gendt of Monroe, Ohio; and sister Emma Klink of Medina, Ohio.
His family will receive friends from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at the Sunbury Christian Church, 250 Rainbow Avenue, Sunbury, where services giving God the glory for the life of Pastor Norman Gendt will follow at 5 p.m. with Pastor Mike Bratten officiating.
Burial services will be observed privately by his family in Sunbury Memorial Park. There will be a memorial service in Florida at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sunbury Christian Church, Westside Christian Church in Bradenton, Florida, or Odyssey Hospice in Richmond, Virginia.
