Reverend RoseMary Hayes Williams, 66, of Gulfport died May 15, 2011 in Gulfport, Mississippi. She was born in Buckatunna, Mississippi and was the daughter of Mrs. Nancy Powell Hayes and the late Reverend Mack Arthur Hayes, Sr. She graduated from Green County Vocational High School. Upon graduating at age 16, she enrolled in Mississippi Valley State College (presently Mississippi Valley State University) where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She received her Masters Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, her Gifted Education Certification from William Carey College, Hattiesburg, Mississippi and worked as a Mississippi Public School Teacher
for 33 <0x00BD> years. She also received her Course of Theological Study from Emory University Chandler School of Theology, Atlanta, Georgia.She met and married the love of her life, Theodore R. Williams, Jr. in 1967 to that union three children were born, Sonya, Thea and Teddy.
Rev. RoseMary was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. She was called into the ministry and assigned to DeLisle-Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in 1996 where she served as pastor until her death.
Rev. RoseMary Hayes Williams was a member of the United Methodist Women, Charter Member of Upsilon Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., National Council of Negro Women, Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church, President of the Advisory Board for the Marsha Barbour Community Center, and a member of Friends of Pass Christian Schools.
She was preceded in death by her father, Reverend Mack Arthur Hayes; son, Theodore R. "Teddy" Williams, III; brothers, Reverend Robert Hayes, McArthur "Tiny" Hayes, Jr. and a sister, Marion Jones.
Rev. RoseMary Hayes Williams is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Theodore R. Williams, Jr., Gulfport, Mississippi; her mother, Mrs. Nancy Powell Hayes, Buckatunna, Mississippi; three daughters, Tyra (Earl) Aycox, Covington, Georgia Sonya Williams Barnes, Gulfport, Mississippi, Dr. Thea (Terrence) Black, Oxford, Mississippi; five grandchildren, Kevin, Brittney, Ashley, Kenson Shedrick, Thea Emmerson; brothers-in-law; Coloneius C. Williams, Sam Jones, George Johnson; sisters-in-law; Jeanette Hayes (Edward) Pou, Autry Hayes, and Lois Gaines.
Visitation: 5 p.m.-8 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2011, Lockett-Williams Mortuary, Inc. Funeral: 11 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2011, DeLisle Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to services. Interment: Pine Ridge Gardens.
