Rufus Elbridge Bruce, Jr passed away on May 20, 2013. Rufus was born on March 20, 1926 in New Orleans LA. He was the only son of Rufus E. Bruce Sr, and Lucy Adele Salles, both of New Orleans. Rufus attended and played football at LSU, and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He was a faculty member at the University of Texas at El Paso for over 30 years, and served as Chair of the Physics Department and Provost of the University of Texas Consortium Program in Malaysia. Rufus also served in the United States Navy and Army National Guard.

Following his retirement, Rufus moved to Diamondhead, MS, where he was active in the Diamondhead Community. He was an Elder in the Diamondhead Community Church, and was instrumental in Diamondhead's incorporation as a city.

Rufus is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly Bond; by daughters Rebecca Frances Bruce, Allison Inez Bruce, Lucy Adele Bruce, and Annadora Janet Bruce-Keller; by sons-in-law J. Dean Brock, Douglas Lutz, and Jeffery Keller, and by grandchildren Hannah Keller, Janet Brock, and Joel Keller. Services will be held at a later date.

Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS is in charge of the arrangements.
