Janet Ramstad - born 12/14/1932, in Flushing New York. She was 79 when she died on 2/11/2012.

Loving daughter of the late Henry and Gladys Fippinger, and sister to late H. Richard Fippinger.

She received a BA in Education at SUNY at Oneonta, New York, and a Master of Science in Reading from the University of Southern Mississippi. She retired in 1994 from Vancleave Middle School after a 22 year career as a sixth grade teacher. She also taught evening classes in Reading at William Cary College.Janet attended First United Methodist Church of Gautier where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School and was involved in several church group activities.She loved to knit and attended several knitting camps. She enjoyed learning new techniques and sharing her handmade sweaters, shawls and caps with her family and friends. She belonged to her church's knitting group and to a knitting club in Pensacola FL. She won several awards for her knitting.

As a reading teacher she loved reading and books. She was President of the Gautier Friends of the Library for many years. She was also a member of the Jackson County Republican Women's Club and served on the City of Gautier's Historic Preservation Commission. She was recognized by the City of Gautier for her efforts in helping the community after Hurricane Katrina.

After she her husband, Lawrence, retired, they took to the road in their R.V. covering most of the United States often stopping to visit family and friends along the way. They spent summers in Maine and winters in Florida. She was very adventurous and went for a hot air balloon ride in Arizona, white water rafting in Colorado and salmon fishing in the Pacific. When her children were young she often packed them up and set out to explore back county roads and trails.

Janet was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend and will be sadly missed by her husband, Lawrence Ramstad of Gautier, her five children, Lee (Betty) Stine of Olathe, KS, Kathy (Jeff) Wilkinson of Gautier, Karl (Beryl) Stine of Huntsville AL, Peter Stine (Tonya) Stine of Ocean Springs and Liz Stine of Canon City, CO; her two stepchildren Gregory (Elaine) Ramstad of Gautier and Leigh Anna (Shawn) Geraghty of Annapolis, MD; her grandchildren Danielle Stine Guerrero, Sara Wilkinson Sloane, Erin Stine Mize, Thomas Stine, Sarah Grimes, Matthew Stine, Kelly Ramstad, Tiffany Ramstad, Kathryn Weid, Emma Geraghty, Graham Geraghty and Penny Weid and her great-grandchildren Gabe and Anabel Guerrero, Will and Maggie Sloane, Cameron Mize and Avien Wills.

A Memorial Service will be held February 26th at 2 PM with a reception to follow at the First United Methodist Church of Gautier (across from the Singing River Mall). In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by Friends of the Gautier Library, 2100 Library Lane, Gautier, MS 39553 or First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 127, Gautier, MS 39553.
