Julie Woodcock McDaniel
Julie Woodcock McDaniel, 41, of Gulfport, MS, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2013.
Born June 18, 1971 in Gulfport to Gregory and Jacqueline Woodcock and a lifelong resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Julie was a 1989 graduate of D'Iberville High School.
Julie attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She graduated in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in Nursing. She began her nursing career at Memorial Hospital in January 1994, and took on the role of working as a disease specific case manager in 2000. As a case manager, she worked with pneumonia and COPD patients. With her excellent patient teaching and communication skills, patient outcomes improved significantly and Memorial was presented with the "Award of Excellence for Exceptional Achievement in Pneumonia/COPD Quality Improvement for 2001-2002." In 2002, Julie transferred to Customer Relations as a Coordinator. She was promoted to Director of Patient/Customer Satisfaction in 2008.
Julie was recognized as a Memorial "STAR" for the 4th quarter of 2012. During the nomination process for Memorial's highest honor, fellow employees pointed out her exemplary characteristics, including her willingness to go out of her way to serve Memorial and its patients, instilling a sense of teamwork in employees, and setting an example with a positive attitude.
Julie loved Memorial Hospital and its staff, and was involved in several committees at the hospital, including: Patient Rights and Responsibilities, CSSVG, and the Service Excellence Representatives Group. She belonged to the Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (SHCA). While at Memorial, she developed "Stellar Stuff," a program used to recognize employees for displaying exceptional customer service.
Julie served as a role model and inspiration to those around her, earning the respect of both her superiors and peers. She often went out of her way to lend a helping hand, and will be remembered as a beautiful lady with a big heart and contagious smile. She loved her family and friends dearly.
Julie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a Cursillo alumnus. The family would like to thank their pastors, The Reverends Danny Dabbs and Leanne Burris, who gave them their unconditional love and support during this trying time. The family would also like to thank her oncologist, Dr. Allison Wall, and her staff for the special care and concern during her illness.
Julie is preceded in death by her father, Gregory G. Woodcock, Sr. and her brother, Gregory G. Woodcock, Jr.
Julie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Mark Henderson McDaniel; her adoring mother, Jacqueline S. Woodcock; and her children, Kenton A. Mitchell, Jacqueline Brooke Mitchell, Jada Cole McDaniel, and step-daughters, Courtney (Jean) Savoie, Ashleigh (Keith) Helton, and Markelle A. McDaniel and their children.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 5007 Lawson Ave, Gulfport, MS 39507.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 10:00 am. A reception at Trinity will follow burial at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
