Bettye Louise O'Neal Gibbs, 77, of Saucier, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Gulfport.

Mrs. Gibbs was born January 11, 1937 in Saucier, MS. She was in the last graduating class of Success High School and was retired from the Department of Human Services. She was a devoted member of Poplar Head United Methodist Church and was past matron of the Eastern Star Perkinston Chapter #376.

Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by her parents, Loren E. O'Neal and Jewel Walker O'Neal; her husband, John A. Gibbs; daughter, Linda K. Gibbs Naquin; and siblings, Emory V. O'Neal, Helen J. Denham, Edith M. Hutchison, Juanita E. Hall, Loren E. O'Neal, Kimble N. O'Neal and Armida L. "Middie" van Bergen.

Survivors include her son, John T. "Terry" Gibbs (Cindy); grandson, John N. Williams; grandson, John A. Gibbs (Beth); granddaughter, Janyce A. Gibbs Layman; grandson, Timothy B. Gibbs; seven great grandchildren; siblings, Mereline O. Walker, Christine O. Wallace (Bob) and Larry O'Neal (Margie); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their thankfulness for the care and compassion from Driftwood Nursing Center and the staff on the North Wing.

Bettye will always be remembered for her loving, kind nature and her love for music and God and she will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 2, 2014 with the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Poplar Head United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Poplar Head Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Poplar Head Church Building Fund.
