Max Anderson Obituary

Max Leon Anderson

1926-2013

Long Beach

Max Leon Anderson, 86, of Long Beach, died peacefully after a brief illness at 1:06 AM on Thursday, February 7, 2013.

Max was born in Independence, Missouri on December 28, 1926 and raised in Hart, Michigan. He attended High School in Hart and was drafted into the Army at the end of World War II where he served in the 1st Army Signal Corp in Germany. While in Germany Max met his beloved wife Helen Nischwitz of Regensburg, Germany. They were married in May 1948 in Germany and had over 50 wonderful years until Helen's passing on January 3, 2001. After the war, Max worked for DuPont in Montague, Michigan, in Wilmington, Delaware, and in Pass Christian, Mississippi where he retired in 1985.

Max was an intelligent, articulate man with wide ranging interests. He enjoyed learning about family history and worked to stay in contact with all of his relatives, friends and neighbors. His Saturday morning phone calls were a ritual. Max was a bargain hunter and loved Hudson's. He loved to tell stories funny, loved jokes, and enjoyed games including poker, gin, scrabble, cribbage, and crossword puzzles. He loved to fish and loved hunting camp in Michigan with his buddies. Sometimes Max even hunted but mostly he made good meals, had a few drinks, swapped lies, and played cards. He loved to debate and would often take the other side just to spur conversation. Max also loved to invest and talk about investments. Like many of his generation, Max had nothing to start with and worked his entire life to make his and his family's life better.

On Friday February 15th a Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 Noon and a Memorial Service at 12 Noon at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach. A reception will immediately follow at Salute Restaurant in Gulfport. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi.

Max will be greatly missed by his friends, neighbors and family but we will all see Max, and his beloved "Schotzie" in heaven. Condolences may be offered at www.riemannfamily.com.

Max was a larger than life kind of guy and taught me more than I will ever be able to remember. He was like a father to my wife Ellen and I - always looking out for our best interest, willing to listen, and able to advise us. We love you and will miss you Uncle Max.

Max, you touched more lives than you will ever know and will be remembered for longer than the 86 years you were here to touch others. Great job on a simple life.

Max was a good friend and our deer camp get-togethers were always full of lively 'discussions'. I'll miss our gin rummy games. He was a good guy and will be missed.
