Walter S. "Neut" Brooks
Walter S. "Neut" Brooks, 87, of Perkinston, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 23, 2013 in Gulfport.
Neut grew up in Big Level and Daisy Vestry. He joined the Navy at seventeen and served in the European Theatre during World War II. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Essie Mae Hall. They were married for 49 years when she passed away in 1996. Neut loved to fish in Red and Black Creeks and kept himself busy with gardening and woodworking. He worked as a welder for many years at Ingalls Shipyard. After leaving Ingalls, he continued to work as a carpenter until he completely retired. Neut was a faithful member of Little Creek Baptist Church.
Neut was the 13th child of Marion Edward "Ed" and Una Leona (Hickman) Brooks, nine brothers, five sisters and a son-in-law, Tony Hickman which all preceded him in death.
He is survived by four children, Dennis Brooks and his wife Becky of Gulfport, Harvey Brooks and his wife Soontree of Prairieville, LA, Regina Brooks Hickman of LaPlace, LA and Kimble Brooks and his wife Susie of Pascagoula; one brother, Theo Irwin "T-Boy" Brooks; eight grandchildren, Ingram Brooks Trexler, Im Brooks, Amanda Hickman Portera, Sarah Hickman Bible, Tiffany Brooks Allday, Andrea Brooks, Quinn Brooks and Brooks Hickman; and two great-grandchildren, Emma Portera and Steven Portera.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2013 at Moore Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Ten Mile Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the Moore Funeral Home in Wiggins.
