William Gene "Bill" Hoffman, 67, of Findlay passed away peacefully on October 21, 2013 in Findlay, Ohio after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born to the late Benjamin Franklin Hoffman, Jr. and Mildred Green Hoffman in Philadelphia, PA on July 11, 1946.

Bill graduated from Lakes High School, Tacoma, WA in 1964. He was an Eagle Scout. Bill received his BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesberg, MS in 1968. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service.

He married Linda Ann Jones of Richmond, VA on May 19, 1977, in New Orleans, LA. Linda and Bill later exchanged vows at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on May 27, 1982, with Fr. Frank Kehres presiding. Bill began his career with Shell Oil Company and later Marathon Oil Company in 1976 at its Garyville, LA refinery. He moved to Findlay, Ohio in 1981 and then to Munich, Germany in 1984. Bill returned to Findlay in 1988 and retired as Controller of Marathon Ashland Petroleum, LLC in 2005 after 29 years of service. Golf was a passion his entire life and he later took up fly fishing in retirement.

Bill served on several boards over the years, including the Humane Society of Hancock County, the Benton Ridge Telephone Company and the St. Michael Parish and School Foundation Board. He was past President of the Arts Partnership of Hancock County and Findlay Country Club.

Bill is survived by his wife, Linda; his children: Daniel Anthony Nienaber, Jr. (Holli) of Glen Allen, VA and Lauren Hoffman Garman (Dan) of Maria Stein, Ohio. Also surviving are four grandchildren which he loved so dearly, Marshall Alexander Harris, Ruby Claire Nienaber, and Daniel Anthony Nienaber, III of Glen Allen, VA, and Jasper Roman Garman of Maria Stein, OH. Bill is also survived by his sister, Nancy Hoffman Lamey, of Moss Point, MS.

Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where a Rosary service will take place at 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Bright Road. The Rev. Msgr. Michael Hohenbrink, Fr. Frank Kehres, and Father Tim Kummerer will be celebrants and burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Findlay, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made in Bill's name to St. Michael the Archangel Parish, 750 Bright Road, Findlay, OH and/or to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, OH.
