KALT, LOYD EUGENE 90, passed away October 31, 2012 at the Cypress of Raleigh, N.C. with his wife Rebha comforting him at his side. Loyd was born October 5, 1922, in Glen Haven, Wisconsin, to Leonard and Hazel Kalt. Raised on a farm in Bloomington, Wisconsin, near the Mississippi River he attended a one room school house until his high school graduation. He then attended the University of Wisconsin
, Madison, until joining the Marine Corps in WWII. He was a fighter pilot assigned as a flight instructor when he met Margaret Laylon, a Navy Wave from Williamsport, PA. They were married in 1946 and lived in Wisconsin and Miami, Florida. Following WWII Loyd attended Optometry school and after receiving his degree and working as an optometrist, was recalled into the Marine Corps during the Korean War where he flew night fighter escort for B29s. Following his military service Loyd and Margaret lived in Miami where they raised their daughters Patricia, Debra and Cynthia. He flew as a commercial airline pilot with National and Pan American airlines until his retirement in 1982. Loyd enjoyed boating in south Florida with the Power Squadron and he and Margaret traveled extensively until her death in 2002. Loyd is survived by his wife of eight years, Rebha Mende Kalt, his sister Helen Lescohier, daughters Patricia Robinson (Austin), Debra Prior (Lane) and Cynthia Racette (Paul, deceased), six grandchildren and three great - grandchildren. At his request no service will be held.
