Marvin J. Newberg

Marvin J. Newberg, age 90, passed away on June 25, 2013 at his home in Boca Raton, Florida. His family was at his bedside. Marvin was born in the Bronx on July 26, 1922, to Abe and Rose Newberg. He attended the University of Pennsylvania where he met and married Elaine Gold, his beloved wife of 69 years. Marvin served in World War II as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Force, specializing as a navigator on a B-25 bomber. On his 90th birthday he was honored on the floor of the House of Representatives by Rep. Brian Higgins of New York. During active duty from July 1944 to April 1946, Marvin overcame many challenges while stationed in India. After returning home from the War, Marvin worked as a CPA with his father and uncle at Newberg and Newberg in Manhattan. With his wife, Elaine, Marvin raised his two children, Richard and Shanti, on Long Island. Marvin and Elaine retired to Boca Raton, Florida in 1992. Marvin is survived by Elaine, sister Ruth Seltzer, children Shanti Gilbert and Richard Newberg, grandsons David and Michael Newberg, daughter-in-law Lori Newberg and son-in-law Tony Farzley. Graveside service is 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday) at Temple Beth El of Boca Raton, Florida. Services are arranged by Levitt Weinstein in Coconut Creek.
