Marvin Sokolow Obituary

Sokolow, Marvin, was born in Buffalo, New York on July 23, 1926. He was the youngest of two sons born to Herman and Esther Sokolow. He moved to Florida in 1943 where Marvin met and married his love, Arlene, on December 21, 1947. They had three children, Ron, Mark and Debi. The love that began this family still bonds them to this day. He had many successes and joys in his life, but none greater than his love for his wife of 62 years, Arlene. In 1947 Marvin opened Gold Coast Supplies and Equipment, establishing the Sokolow name as a legacy of honesty, integrity and quality throughout the Caribbean. This legacy continues unbroken today by his son and grandchildren. Marvin's word was his bond, and trust was his hallmark. He traveled much of the world with his wife and enjoyed enduring friendships in several countries. He was a proud and active Rotarian for 14 years and a Paul Harris Fellow. He proudly served as a PFC and Drill Instructor in the U.S. Air Force in WWII and as a member of the Jewish War Veterans Post #335. Marvin was a self-made, successful entrepreneur all of his life. He touched the hearts and lives of so many people with his love and caring. He was a devoted mentor and friend to his children, grandchildren, sister-in-law, nieces and nephews, as well as to a large extended family here and abroad. Marvin is survived by his wife, Arlene; his children Ron, Mark (Bonnie) Sokolow, Debi (Jackie) Keene; five grandchildren: Marissa (Hugo) Stangl, Matt (Susy) Sokolow, Brian Keene; and five great-grandchildren: Sienna, David, Andrew, Zachary and Alison; as well as a host of loving family and friends. He passed away peacefully in his home on July 17, 2009 surrounded by his family. Contributions in Marvin's name may be made to: UM Sylvester Cancer Institute in Miami, FL, or Hospice by the Sea, South Broward Team. Funeral Services will be today, Monday, July 20, 2009 at 12:00 noon at: Levitt-Weinstein Beth David Memorial Chapel 3201 NW 72 Ave., Hollywood FL 33024 954-963-3240

Sokolow Family,

May you find peace knowing that Marvin was an incredible man who touched the lives of so many. I was saddened by the news to know that I would never again have the chance to chat or see Marvin just pop in my office to say hi. He was an amazing man who shared fond memories of his life, his friends and love ones. He was always true to his word, inspired me in so many ways and was always a ray of sunshine. I enjoyed each and every visit and just the simple pleasure of a great friendship. Marvin, you will be missed, yet will remain in our hearts forever.

Dad...never was an easy word for me to use until I met Marvin. We had a lot of great times together. He shared thoughts and secrets with me that helped me have a better picture of who he was and he accepted me for who I am. We laughed and joked and could be simply silly with each other. I thought he would be here forever. Marvin the Invincible. So sad that he's gone. I love and miss him.

Oh Daddy...I miss you so much! It's been over two months and still I can't seem to find my way back to myself! I'm so glad you are in a better place with no pain, but I miss you and so wish you were here with us!

You would be so proud of our Brian...he is doing so well! We, Jackie, Brian and I are all better people because of your love, acceptance and wisdom that you so graciously shared with us! I have the best memories...so so many and will cherish them forever!

I love you Daddy and can't wait to see you in my dreams! xoxo

My grandfather was a great man. He was well accomplished and had a heart of gold - even when it didn't seem like it. He loved his wife; he loved his children; he loved his grand and great-grand children more than he loved himself - even if he did have a funny way of showing it sometimes. He was wise - he was intelligent - he was a lover & a fighter - he had always been honest and most times fair. He was a great man - one who could help you thru the faults of your own - and one who could call himself out for his own faults. My grandfather was a man of more accomplishments than faults. He is highly respected by all of his peers and has always been cherished by his family. I will always look up to him and strive to be all of the great things I have come to cherish about him and will strive to improve the things I did not.

My final wish for him was that he slipped out in peace - with no more pain, no more hurt, no more sadness - sleeping peacefully, dreaming of all the love he has shared in his entire life. The love of being a child, the love of being a man, the love of being a friend and a father, the love of being a grand-parent...dreaming of his love of living.

I love you grandpa and always will. Rest in true peace.
