Reese Franklin Harry

Harry Harry, Reese Franklin Reese Franklin Harry, who was born in the tiny farming community called Pompano 82 years ago, passed away on Wednesday, December 26 at his home. He graduated valedictorian from Pompano Beach High School in 1948. He was an accomplished athlete. In 1946 he was a member of the state championship basketball team. The ?Bean Pickers? of the Pompano Beach High School football team often referred to him as ?TD Harry? because he was known to score many touchdowns as a running back. Franklin attended the University of Florida and cheered on his Gators. After, he entered into the U.S. Army in 1951 - March 1953. He was stationed in West Germany. Franklin returned and on June 18, 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Chalker. He was involved in ranching and then in farming, specializing in zucchini squash. He was known to his friends as the ?zucchini kid?. Later, Franklin became a Realtor and joined with Johnson & Callaway. Franklin was Master of Pompano Beach Masonic Lodge in 1964. He was a member of the York Rite and the Mahi Shrine. He was a 50 year member of all three organizations. In later years, he served as Secretary of the Masonic lodge. Franklin attended the First United Methodist Church of Pompano Beach, where he was a member and an usher. Reese Franklin Harry is survived by his wife, Marcia Lorraine Harry; his sister, Ruth Smith of Lacoochee, FL; brother- and sister-in-law, Ed and Amy Chalker; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grand nephews, and one great grand nephew. The service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 29 at the Christ Church Chapel Pompano Beach - 201 NE 2nd Street. A repose will precede the service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice By the Sea in Boca Raton in Franklin?s name.
