Barbara Males Obituary

Barbara J. Males of Hillsboro Beach passed away on Jan. 4, 2014 from complications caused by a fall resulting in a number of broken bones. Born in Chicago in 1931, she went on to her beloved Ripon College at which she has created a scholarship fund under the family name. From there she went to the Sorbonne in Paris on a Fulbright Scholarship where she earned a graduate degree. She met her husband, Rene, at Ripon when they shared the lead roles in a French play. Barbara and Rene have been married for almost 60 years and have three children. The children were raised in Glen Ellyn, IL and then Los Altos, CA. As her husband later followed corporate opportunities, she re-established the family home in Milwaukee, WI; Pasadena, CA; Ceenterville and Cedar Rapids, IA. The children all attended universities in Texas but settled in other areas: Eric in McLean VA, Kerstin in Houston TX, Melissa in Talbott TN. The children have provided them with six grandchildren: Billie of McLean; Breanna and Kaetlyn of Houston; Carl, Ashley and Justin of Talbott. A ballet dancer in her youth, Barbara has been supportive of the classical music scene, particularly ballet companies, in the many areas where they have lived. No service is currently planned but her ashes will be scattered at sea as she requested. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation would be gratefully accepted.
