Pat, if I may use myself as a yardstick, was most interested in anyone he considered to have talent. He spoke of mine (in his column) on multiple occasions in terms so glowing it made me blush. He attended various venues where I performed and I noticed he gave his complete attention. His personal asides were always humorous and welcomed. I can still picture him there with Maestro James Brooks Bruzzese enjoying the show. R.I.P. dear friend!

It was most gratifying, at your memorial luncheon, to see and hear all the wonderful things your friends remembered of you throughout the years. Continue to R.I.P. and know you are still remembered by all who called you friend. I will never forget you. Thank you for your friendship, support and kindness to me.

Having initially said what I did regarding Pat's passing, there isn't anything more I can add to the loss of a highly regarded friend, other than to say the sadness of his passing is as strong today as the day he left us. I know, if it's possible he has a window to what's happening down here (to his detractors, if any, note that I said down here and not up here, LOL) he must be truly proud of what both Ellen and Rick are doing with his beloved newspaper, "Around Town". Theirs will be a lasting tribute to a great idea and so useful to many of Pat's friends and associates. JERRY TEE

Ft. Lauderdale is not the same town today - without Patrick Mascola.

I first met him at Joseph's, then at the 3rd annual bartenders bash at Islamorada.
Then, 10 years later when I started a union organizing drive to help waiters & bartenders he saw an article in the Sun-Sentinel about it with my photo and called me, he asked me to "keep this conversation between us until I'm dead", well now you should know that Patrick Mascola had a deep desire to help hospitality staff in this town organize, he said "we have professionals that are not treated like the professionals they are and it pains me to look in their faces, I know they have no health insurance, no pension, and really no financial future, except for working till they drop dead."
When I lost the 1st election at Yesterday's, he was the first call on my machine when I got home, saying "Keep fighting, big things are never easy, this town needs you."
Pat was an inspiration to me, and so many others, he saw what was right when wrong was all around him, and while careful with his words, when challenged he always spoke his mind.
This town changed a lot since 1981 when I read his first issue, but now, with the passing of Pat, it is changed forever.
Don't worry, Pat, one day hospitality workers on Ft. Lauderdale will rise up again and get what they deserve, a Union Contract and a Union they can all turn to in times of need.

There are no words to adequately compensate for the loss of anyone especially a valued friend. I can only add my sense of loss to that of Pat's family and many, many friends. He always made me feel special with his generous and kind words regarding my professional contribution to the music he enjoyed.
