Ann Girlando Obituary

Girlando, Ann, 96, slipped away on Monday, June 6, surrounded by family. Ann was born, the oldest daughter of Hemina and Rudy DeMali in OshKosh, WI on September 24, 1914. She had four older brothers, and three younger brothers all of whom preceded her in death, and finally, three younger sisters, two of whom survive. The family moved to Akron, OH when she was a child. Ann was the adored wife of Ned Girlando, whom she married in 1932. They were married 52 years, until his death in 1984. Ann and Ned moved to FL in 1978, and she lived in her home in Davie, FL until her death. Although she was a full time wife and homemaker, she was very proud of her short stint as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. "Gramma Annie", as she was known to most everyone, is survived by her beloved daughter, Joan Kovac, former Mayor Of Davie and son in law, Harvey Kovac of Pompano Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Sherri Ann (Robert) Kimbel of Washington, DC, Laurie Ann (Keith) Walpole of Plantation, FL, and Joseph (Cheryl) Kovac of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Gibitz of Akron, OH, and Margaret Littlefield of MO. She was preceded in death by her only son, Joseph Richard, in 1958. Visitation and a funeral Mass will be at St. David's Catholic Church, in Davie on Friday, June 10. Friends may call at 12:30 p.m., with the Mass to begin at 1 p.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home. She will be buried next to her beloved husband, Ned and son Joseph, at Holy Cross Cemetery on Waterloo Road in Akron, OH. Burial will be under the direction of Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Chapel 1990 South Main Street Akron, OH 44301. Memorial donations may be made to St. David Church and Vitas Hospice in her memory. 954587-6888 www.tmralph.com.

Dear Aunt Joan,Uncle Harvey,Sherri, Laurie and Joey,

Mom (Jackie) saw the notice in the paper late on Sunday evening and we didn't want to intrude on the graveside service, but we do want to offer our condolences. Time flies by so quickly and we sometimes loose track of those we love until times like this. My memories of my times with you and your family during my childhood are very happy ones. I pray for comfort for all of you in your time of sorrow. May He continue to richly bless your lives.

Love and Prayers,
Annie and Jackie Hofer

Dear Joan, Harvey, Sherri, Laurie & Joe,
Our deepest sympathy to you and your families.
We have such fond memories of Aunt Ann and Uncle Ned. She was a lady with class and opened her home to all of us Girlando girls. My mom sends her love and prayers too. We know that all of you took such good care of her and she'll be missed.
Love, Linda, Gary, Todd, & Marybell
