Raymond Raymond, Robert A long-time resident of South Florida, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013, in Boca Raton. He was 81. Robert "Bob" Raymond was the son of Edmund W. Raymond and Elizabeth Fabian Raymond of Mine Hill, NJ. He was born on August 2, 1931, and Christened on September 13, 1931. Bob graduated from Dover High School in NJ, and pursued his college education in fine art in NYC and later at the University of Miami. Robert began his career at Lewis Advertising in Newark. After marrying his childhood sweetheart, the late Shirley Gauer, Robert served the United States Army at Coco Solo Naval base in Panama from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. Among his many duties, Robert used his talent in fine art to make posters for the U.S. Armed Forces. After an honorable discharge, the couple relocated to Florida where they had a wonderful life together and raised their two children. Robert quickly became a prominent commercial artist associated with several south Florida advertising firms, most notably Marshall Simons Advertising and Backus Turner International. An avid golfer, Bob belonged to several local golf associations and was a resident and member of the Miami Shores Country Club for many years. He loved playing for a small wager which he would say, "elevated his game," and often you could find him strolling the fairways alongside former U.S. Open winner Ed Furgol. He loved to cook, garden, and always had plenty of jokes to share. Bob also enjoyed being a member of The American Legion of Deerfield Beach. Bob's art work can be seen around South Florida and locally at the Boca Raton Rehabilitation Center where he donated his time and talent to create a mural wall and garden on the resident's patio area. Robert will be dearly missed by his loving wife Deirdre of twenty-two years, his family who loved him very much, and dear friends old and new. Robert is survived by his Wife, Deirdre Bilyk Raymond, Deerfield Beach, FL; Daughter Bonnie (Albert) Rhoads, Summerfield, FL; Son Robert "R.A." (Cynthia) Raymond, Boca Raton, FL; Grandchildren, Stephanie (David) Conklin, San Antonio, TX; Suzanne Rhoads, Ashville, NC; Kyle Raymond, Boca Raton, FL; Colleen Raymond, Boca Raton, FL; Great grandchildren, Derek Conklin, Jessica Conklin, Jason Conklin, and Samuel Conklin, San Antonio, TX; Brother, Gary E. Raymond, Hollywood, FL; Niece, Belinda Singe, NJ; Nephew, Gary (Jennifer) Raymond Jr.; Great nephews and nieces, Alex Raymond, Elizabeth Raymond, Herb Singe, Heidi Singe, NJ; and many cousins including Gail Ronca, NJ, and other cousins, for whom Robert loved and cherished times spent with family. The family will be receiving friends at Barbara Falowski Funeral Home, 300 S.W. 6th Street, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 33315, Thursday, February 21, 2013, between 4-8 PM. A private service will be held in Dover, New Jersey, where Robert will be laid to rest at Locust Hill Cemetery. Not to be forgotten, are Robert and his lovely wife Deirdre's pets, loyal canine buddy "Cody," and feline friend "Daisy," who will also miss Robert. Instead of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Tri-County Humane Society (a non-kill animal shelter which was dear to Robert's heart,) 21287 Boca Rio Road, Boca Raton, FL 33434. Robert Raymond will be greatly missed by all.
