Antonia Bernadette Crimi

Antonia Crimi Obituary

Crimi, Antonia (Toni) Bernadette, 56, of Plantation, beloved wife and mother died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, on September 20, 1954. Toni spent her early years in Highland, NY surrounded by her large extended family. She graduated Plantation High School in 1972 and went on to study nursing. Toni was an honors graduate from Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1976. As a Registered Nurse, Toni specialized in critical care, trauma and emergency medicine in Broward County. Toni became involved in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in 1979 and continued her formal education by earning paramedic certification in 1981. She went to become Training Coordinator for Fire Rescue Departments and clinical instructor for Broward College. Through her strong collaborations with numerous medical directors and unequalled expertise, she was instrumental in the development of emergency medicine-based education and training at all educational levels throughout the tri-county area. Toni touched the lives and careers of countless EMTs, paramedics, nurses and physicians with her dynamic personality, unique approach and passion. She inspired her students and colleagues, cultivated potential and stressed excellence in patient care. In 1999, her entrepreneurial spirit created a successful educational business and was sought after for medical-legal cases, medical device development and clinical applications for pre-hospital and hospital practice. Her professional legacy lives on in the admiration of her colleagues and students. Toni's greatest legacy is her two children. She was a dedicated mother to Sarah AnneMarie and Gordon. One of her greatest joys was the birth of her grandson Ethan, who lovingly called her "Nanny." Toni had a deep love for her parents and sisters. She was a precious member of a large and devoted family. She loved animals, gardening, antiques and the outdoors. Throughout her life, Toni touched many lives and her presence is a treasured gift. She will be deeply missed. Her family takes comfort in the knowledge that they will be reunited again in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Toni is survived by her loving husband, Thomas F. Sheridan, III; beloved children, Sarah AnneMarie Hopkins (Chris Schumacher) and Gordon Grant Hopkins, III; treasured grandson Ethan Matthew Schumacher; devoted parents Joseph Crimi and Frances Sima Crimi; cherished sisters Anne Woods (Marc Woods), Sarah Lawson (Stephen Lawson), Sali Cronan (Thomas Cronan) and Christina Hessing (Dennis Hessing); dear nieces and nephews Amie, Casey, Renee, John, Joseph, and Nicholas; Isabella and Jack and cousins. Antonia's family will receive friends at TM Ralph Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th St., Plantation, FL on Monday, May 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, 200 N University Dr., Plantation on Tuesday, May 24 at 10 a.m. Toni's life will be celebrated immediately following the service. Flowers are welcome. Charitable contributions may be made to the Humane Society in memory of Toni Crimi.

I dreamed about Toni last night and was saddened to look her up today and discover that she passed. She excelled in everything she did. I admired her when I knew her in the 80's and I admire her even more now after reading about her exceptional life after I lost contact with her. She had a great energy and a beautiful spirit.
God Bless you, Toni.

I'd like to extend my deepest sympathy to all of Toni's family for their great loss.

Toni and I were friends in high school and through college. After leaving south Florida I let both time and distance keep us apart. I truly thought that we would reconnect again and our friendship would flourish once more. My search last week proved me wrong when I found this guest book in her honor.

Toni was hands above most of the people I knew in high school in terms of her ambition and self-discipline. She was an independent thinker yet very social. She was a steadfast friend. Two attributes I most admired about Toni were her intelligence and creativity. She was one of those people who were at home in science as well as in ceramic class, equally earning good grades in both. Toni loved learning and while in nursing school I found out she loved teaching as she tried to explain the Krebs cycle to me. Her enthusiasm for elucidating this subject was infectious and the presentation was clear and concise. In high school, Toni encouraged and challenged me to try harder, go further, and to get serious. In short, she was a motivator. I did get my bachelor's degree and Toni was among a handful of people at the time that recognized my potential and I owe her credit for that. I am truly sorry that I did not have the chance to thank her.

My dad, my mom, and my brothers- Tom and Pat, all loved Toni. Toni spent a lot of time with our family and even worked in our family business for a while. Toni held her own in my tribe and remarkably so with my father. My dad loved to test my friends and she handled anything he could throw at her. She numbered among the few that were able to “throw it back” at him with enviable verve. He loved that!
Toni lives in on through her family and in all the good she has done in this world. Her light will never dim and radiates as strongly now as when she was alive.

Thank you Sally for maintaining this memorial page. It is a testament to your enduring love for your sister and a beacon for those of us who search. I feel privileged to have been able to share my thoughts about my friend.

I had Toni as a clinical instructor at Memorial Regional in 82-83. Absolutely THE most competent, knowledgeable medical person I ever knew, more than any physician I ever came across. She never made you feel uncomfortable and was a first class person.
