Carolyn Torrey Barter, 88, of Pompano Beach, formerly of Johnstown, NY passed away Friday, December 27, 2013. Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Bonita (Dan) Mashley of Ft. Lauderdale and Barbara (Terence) Ball of Delray Beach; sons, Frederick II (Denise) of Diamondhead, MS and Scott T. (Juli) Barter of Pompano Beach; grandchildren, Dennis (Meridith) Barter, Shelia (Brad) Huntzinger, Marcus and Anna Ball; brother, Preston Torrey of CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, Frederick W. Barter and her sister Jeanette Dunham and brother, Edwin Torrey. She was educated in Edinburg/Northville schools and graduated from Alfred University. She was a high school teacher in Mayfield and Johnstown, NY. While living in Johnstown, she was an O.E.S. Past District Deputy, and Past President of Business and Professional Women, Soroptimist, Int, Eclectic Society and Warren Street PTA. She was active in numerous other organizations and charitable drives. Carolyn was a member of Christ Church United Methodist, in Ft. Lauderdale. Those who knew her will miss her sweetness, her smile and her loving spirit. Her funeral service will be held, at 11 AM, Friday, Jan. 3rd in Christ Church, 4845 NE 25 Ave, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn North Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in her memory to the Christ Church United Methodist.
