Clifford B. Selwood Jr. Obituary
Selwood, Clifford B. Jr., of Plantation, age 89, loving father and World War II Army veteran, passed away on March 27th. His beautiful wife, Mary, and sister, Shirley, predecease him. He is survived by loving and devoted sons, Clifford, III, and Jason, cherished and loving grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer, caring and devoted daughter-in-law, Ethel Marie, wife of Clifford, III, and special nieces, Darlynn Czerner and Debbie Kennedy. He was born in Springfield, MA on December 30, 1923 and moved with his loving parents, Clifford and Irene, to Miami at an early age. A graduate of Miami Edison Sr. High, he was a bandleader, playing clarinet and saxophone to the songs of the Big Band Era, an appreciation for which he passed on to his sons. While his band showed promise, sponsored by Bacardi Rum, his then future wife shortly re-directed his career path toward the practice of law. Before then, he proudly served in the US Army, leading a platoon fighting in the 99th Infantry Division's, "Battle Babies", under General Patton's 1st Army during the Battle of the Bulge, pushing back the German's final advance, which effectively ended WWII on the European Front and he assisted in liberating Nazi concentration camps and in the subsequent occupation of Germany during the Nuremberg war trials. Upon returning home he obtained his law degree via the GI Bill, graduating magna cum laude, becoming editor-in-chief of the University of Miami Law Review. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1951. After working initially in the City of Miami's attorney's office he joined, Carey, Terry, Dwyer, Austin, & Cole, eventually expanding the firm into Broward and Palm Beach as, Carey, Dwyer, Cole, Selwood & Bernard, becoming a highly respected firm. He loved the University of Miami, golfing, fishing, reading and spending time with his family. His guidance, love, strength and support will be forever missed. Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 4th at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th St., Plantation (954)587-6888, from 5p to 8p. Funeral services will be held at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, 200 N University Drive, Plantation (954) 473-6261 on Friday, April 5th at 11a., with cemetery services to immediately follow at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S SR 7, Lake Worth (561)649-6489.
