Edwin L. Canter, Jr., P.E., 87, of Plantation, FL passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013. Mr. Canter was the son of the late Edwin L. Canter, Sr. and Bertha (Drummond) of Boynton Beach, FL. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduated cum laude from the University of Miami in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and was licensed in 1963 as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida. Throughout his career he worked for Gulf Oil, Boeing, Marine Acoustical Services, Tracor Marine and then went on to found Superior Engineering Sales and later Hydro Pumps, Inc. in 1982, a family-operated business in Plantation. He also worked as a private consultant to the local maritime industry and designed electrical systems for vessels as notable as Windjammer's "Legacy" and Malcolm Forbes' "The Highlander". He was predeceased by his son, Logan, and brothers, Richard and Gerald. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Thelma of 66 years, daughters Jan, Jill, Juli, and Jeri, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, January 17, 2014 at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
