Elayne Baron Obituary

Elayne Baron, 74, passed away suddenly on June 14, 2011. Beloved mother of Wayne (Rochelle), Lloyd (Shari), David (Jackie), and Cindy Foott; grandmother to Jeffrey, Jordan, Jacob, Joseph, Steven, Tyler, Gabrielle, Alexis, Grant and Hayley; sister to Geri and Bob Thaler; loving aunt to Stuart and David Thaler, Pamela, Lindsay and Jessica Landau, Rebecca, Matthew and Noah Thaler. Her husband of 51 years, Peter Baron, a long time pharmacist in Broward County, predeceased her on March 26, 2009. Elayne was born and raised in the Bronx, NY, and was a graduate of City College. She started her career as a teacher of inner city children and continued to demonstrate her passion for those in need throughout her work career. After raising her children, she began a second career as an entrepreneur and founded several successful businesses including the first indoor flea market on the East Coast and promoted large events in the NY metropolitan area. After relocating to FL, Elayne found a home in the Human Services Department for Broward County. In that department, she fully utilized her unique charisma and ability to be all things to all people at a time that they were most in need. Described by many as the glue of the Human Services Department, she coordinated countless events for Broward County for such causes as the United Way, American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. She organized employee recognition events to keep moral at a high and most recently assisted in the establishment of the new Family Success Center in Central Broward County. Elayne had a great passion for life, her family and the underprivileged. Her personality would light up a room and she had a warmth that made people feel as if they mattered at a time when they were most in need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the American Diabetes Association of Broward County. Services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Star of David, 7701 Bailey Road, N. Lauderdale, FL (954)722-9000 with interment immediately following the funeral procession to Menorah Gardens, 21100 W. Griffin Rd., SW Ranches, FL 33332. Arrangements made by Menorah Gardens & Funeral Chapels.

Cindy and Family,

My Mom told me of your Mom's passing and I want you all to know you are in my prayers. She was always so upbeat and kind, as was your Dad. I know my sister Dianne will miss her phone calls and the fun times they shared. She is with your Dad now and Biff too. May she rest in peace.

Dear Bob and Geri,
I was so sorry to hear of Elayne's passing. We all shared so much over the years. Larry passed away in October and in the eulogy our son, Peter, spoke of the early days of the law practice. Please know that my thoughts are with you.
Love, Mitzi

There are so many words that describe Elayne, compassionate, brilliant, caring, meticulous, witty, talented and the kind of person that was always willing to help. She will be greatly missed by her FSAD and Human Services families as well as many people in Broward County. May her children and grandchildren be comforted by the fact that we all thought of them as extensions of her as she fondly talked about each one while showing us the pictures after each adventure. God bless each of you and give you His peace.

Elayne was one in a million. I had the honor of working with her several years ago and the privilege of calling her my friend. I never smiled so much or laughed so often as when I was with Elayne. My prayers are with the Baron family as you were her inspiration in all that she did.

Elayne was a special lady and will be truly missed by all of us at the Broward County Human Services Department. She had a special light and and a special might; she would let nothing stop her from accomplishing what she needed to accomplish on a project. She was a great friend and a very loyal employee. I will never forget the kindness that she shared towards me.
