Jun. 12, 1951 - Nov 25, 2013 Eric Christopher (Chris) Barton, 62, of Oakland Park left the world peacefully at home on November 25, 2013 after a year and a half of courageous strength and an incredible attitude in fighting cancer. Born in 1951 in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of the late Richard Barton and BJ Donahue, Chris lived many years in Georgia before settling in Oakland Park in 1992. He retired as a Senior City Planner for the City of Fort Lauderdale followed by a short time at Kimley-Horn & Associates. Chris was in private practice as a landscape architect and AICP planner in Atlanta. There he won national and regional awards for his work. He also created many of the design guidelines for the U.S. military bases in Germany and the United States. His Bachelor's degree is from the University of Georgia (Go Dogs!) and his Masters from the University of Pennsylvania (The Fighting Quakers!). Chris was a beloved son, wonderful husband, loving brother, proud father, true friend and gentleman. All who knew Chris will miss his warm heart, humor and genuine kindness. He was an Eagle Scout, avid golfer, a fabulous story teller and a passenger in the last American vehicle to cross through Check Point Charlie the night the Berlin Wall fell. Chris loved to travel, had a very close family, liked to entertain and was a creative and enthusiastic cook both in the kitchen, grilling by the camp fire or the patio pool. Chris loved to camp and canoe and had many lifetime friends. He hiked most of the Appalachian Trail and had an infectious exuberance for life that affected all who knew him. Chris will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 23 years, Pamela, whom he dearly loved. In addition he is survived by his beloved daughter Erin Crutchfield (Eric Crutchfield) of Birmingham, Alabama, beloved brother Rev. Richard Barton (Gloria Barton) Geneva, New York, loving niece Noelle DeFazio (Blaise DeFazio) Rockville, Maryland, Sarah Shields of Georgia and dedicated nephews Eli Barton, Rome, Italy and Sam Shields of Georgia. Chris is predeceased by his beloved sister Michelle Shields of Columbus, Georgia. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at 11:00 a.m. on December 14, 2013. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the
