Hoffmann, H. Wayne, passed away on June 28, 2012, 10 days after his 64th birthday. He was deeply loved by his wife Lorraine, and by his family. For them, his untimely death creates an abyss of loss and sorrow. Wayne will be missed, also, by the students he taught during his 40 years as a band director in the Dade County Public Schools, and by the many, many friends he made as a teacher, a musician, a fisherman, a naturalist, a woodsman, a Florida historian and a curator of nature - and more tangible things. Due to the extraordinarily wide range of his interests and talents, Wayne will be remembered as a Renaissance man of the highest order, an egalitarian comfortable with everyone he met, from luminaries to people standing behind him in grocery store lines. As a teacher and a National Honor Society sponsor for many years, Wayne championed educational excellence, especially in the arts. Accordingly, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Interlochen Center for the Arts, PO Box 199, Interlochen, MI 49643. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date. Condolences may be shared at http://www.tmralph.com/. View this Guest Book at www.SunSentinel.com/obituaries.
