Richard Coan Obituary

Coan, Dr. Richard D., passed away May 28, 2011. He was born on January 18, 1925 in DeLand, Florida. After service in the Navy as a submariner in WWII, he graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine with a degree in Osteopathy in 1952. He had his own practice in Ft. Lauderdale for 25 years during which time he delivered 1000 babies. Following retirement from private practice he served as Director of a public health clinic in Broward County, Florida, for 10 years. He enjoyed the outdoors through hunting, fishing and flying. He is survived by his devoted wife Edie of 59 years, four loving sons, John. R. Coan, William P. Coan (Deborah), Andrew B. Coan and Paul E. Coan (Maike). He had seven adoring grandchildren, Matthew, Kyle, Travis, Taylor, Richard, Hannah and Maya. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Fred Hunters, 2401 So. University, Davie, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to: The American Lung Association of South Florida, PO Box 7000, Albert Lea, MN 56007 and Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund at 5420 NW 33rd Ave, Suite 100, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309. He will always be remembered as a kind hearted person who adored his wife and sons.
