Samuel Geer Obituary

Geer Geer, Samuel Lee , 52-year resident of Pompano Beach, passed away March 25, 2011, in Texas. Sam was born on May 24, 1921, in Sparta, TN. In 1944, during his WWII years in the Army Air Corps, Sam married Mary Esther Bryant of Gainesville, FL. They settled in Cowan, TN after the war. In 1947, Sam moved his family to Pompano Beach, FL, where he became the fifth employee of the Farmers Bank of Pompano. Sam remained with this financial institution for 39 years, though it relocated and changed its name. He retired in 1986, as a Sr. Vice President with Florida Coast Banks. Community service was important to Sam. He was active in Pompano s Chamber of Commerce (1964-73; director and treasurer), Kiwanis Club (1969-80; president in 1974), Zoning and Advisory Board (1975-83) and the North Broward County National Alliance of Businessmen. Sam spent decades as an Elder in the Sixth Street Church of Christ of Pompano Beach, of which he and Mary were founding members. In 1999, Sam married Vera Johnson of Abilene, TX. The two had been friends while he was stationed in San Antonio during WWII. Samuel L. Geer was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary Geer, his son Samuel C. Geer and seven of his siblings. Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Vera Geer; his daughters and sons-in-law Gwen and Billy Parris and Elizabeth and Greg Moore; stepchildren Larry and Ann Johnson, Janice and Rocky Sprott and Kenneth Johnson; grandchildren Rhonda Jones, Christopher Jennings, Kimberly Krebs and Eric Krebs; two sisters and 6 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 30, at the Sixth St. Church of Christ, 2190 SE 6th St., Pompano Bch, FL. Memorial contributions may be made to: Covenant Foundation, Palliative Medicine Unit, 3623 22nd Place, Lubbock, TX 79410.
