Bender, Stanley P., 72, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Survived by his wife, Charlene; his son, Jeffrey; daughter-in-law, Amy; grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, and Zachary; and mother-in-law, Sonia Cupo. He was a long-time resident of Fort Lauderdale, relocating from Park Ridge, Illinois when Motorola opened their temporary Oakland Park plant while the Plantation plant was under construction. An engineer by education, his career included working at Motorola, Bendix, Telematics, and Honeywell. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He was a member of Mensa. He was proud of his son's graduation with honors from the University of Notre Dame and enjoyed supporting the Fort Lauderdale Notre Dame Alumni Club. After retirement, he was a volunteer at Holy Cross Hospital. He enjoyed playing tennis, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 21 from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Baird Case Jordan Fannin Funeral Home, 4343 N. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 22 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Coleman Catholic Church, 1200 So. Federal Highway, Pompano Beach, FL.
