William George Nederlanden, son of Johanna and William Nederlanden, was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on Oct. 10, 1924 and passed away on May 12, 2014. Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty (Rohde) Nederlanden and his three children, Alan (Cindy), Janet and Richard. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew (Micah), Brianna and Jessica as well as his niece Mary DeJong and nephews George (Mary) Lindquist and David (Sharon) Lindquist. Bill graduated from Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan. In WWII he served as a Navy torpedo pilot. Bill taught school in Michigan, Illinois and Florida before forming Nederlanden Insurance Inc. in Pompano Beach, Florida. Bill had a great love for the ocean and sailing and was instrumental in founding the Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club in 1971 and became their first Commodore. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 18th at Fred Hunter Funeral Home located at 4650 N. Federal Hwy in Lighthouse Point, FL. The family will receive friends starting at 6PM. The Navy Color Guard will begin the service at 6:45PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to VITAS Hospice Care at 5420 NW 33 Ave, Suite 100 Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33309.
