Allen, Amy Lynn, 22, born in Blacksburg, VA on January 26, 1989, taken to heaven unexpectedly on April 8, 2011. Amy was an accomplished performer and athlete; though faced with many challenges, her disabilities didn't slow her down. She was passionate about dancing, performing and Special Olympics. Her spirit blossomed as a dedicated member of the Rock-ette Dance Academy for 16 years. Her passion to perform was apparent to all. As a student at J.P. Taravella High School, she participated in dance, drama and Special Olympics. Amy's crowning glory was to perform center stage as a member of the Special Needs Color Guard at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City in 2006 and 2008. She was a dedicated Special Olympic athlete for 14 years and won countless medals in bowling, basketball, volleyball, swimming and skiing. Amy also participated in Challenger Baseball with her many friends. She loved being part of a team and encouraging others to do their best, including cheering on the J.P. Taravella swim team. Amy loved to read, watch Disney movies, color, write journals and game nights. She loved theme parks and getting autographs from her favorite Disney Characters. Those who knew her will be forever touched by her spirit, beautiful smile, courage and determination.
