George Botoman, 87, died peacefully with his family by his side on July 8, 2013, after a long illness. He is survived by Rodica, his wife of 60 years, by his son, Vlaicu Alin, and by his grandchildren: Alexander, Maureen, and Eleonor Alina. George was born in Vistea, Romania. He became a geologist and for 20 years headed the Exploration Section of the Romanian Geological Survey. In 1969 he decided to leave from behind the Iron Curtain, and immigrate with his family to the United States in 1970. He attained a Masters Degree from Ohio State University, and worked for 20 more years for the Ohio Geological Survey. His research work made a major contribution to understanding the geology of Ohio, and is still being used as a reference. After retirement, he worked tirelessly to support the Romanian Program at Ohio State University, founded by his wife. He and Rodica moved to Florida in 2002. George was an extra-ordinary, husband, father, and grandfather with amazing devotion to his family.
