Alison Elizabeth Rutherford, 42, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, lost her battle with breast cancer on Friday, January 17, 2014. She is survived by her loving family; mother, Lynn Dalton Rutherford; father, James Larry Rutherford; brother, Thaddeus Dalton Rutherford; sister-in-law, Courtney Rutherford; nephews, Coleman James and Quinn Anderson Rutherford; aunt, Markie Cravedi and uncle, Eddie Cravedi and cousin, Bryson Joseph Maslow. Alison is also survived by her loving and loyal companion Clancy. Alison was also predeceased by her cousin, Kristen Hope Maslow; grandmothers, Elizabeth Brinkley White and Mary Joe Barnes. Alison was born in Norfolk, VA but lived her life in Fort Lauderdale where she attended St Thomas Aquinas. She also earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Florida State University and Nova Southeastern in Education. She was in Education for many years and then moved into Literacy Coaching and eventually co-founded her own business in Educational Consulting based out of New York. Her love of life took her around the world and made many friendships that lasted her lifetime. Memorial Services will be held at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 718 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale FL 33316 on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Alison would want all who attend, to wear something pink or colorful in her memory.
