Miller, Robert J., 83, joined his beloved wife in heaven on April 4, 2014. Raised in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the only child of Cliff and Ruby Miller. In 1949 Bob married the love of his life, Jean Bolles, and they raised eight children. Throughout his life he immersed himself in the lives and activities of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren imparting fun, laughter, adventure, wisdom and family values. Bob was a self-made man, earning his Bachelor's Degree while working multiple jobs and raising his family. Somehow he found time for family camping adventures, learned to fly airplanes, scuba dive, motorcycle across the country, and so much more. He served as Director of Maintenance and Engineering at St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY until 1978, when he took the same job at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale. Bob and Jean traveled the United States in their RV and visited Europe, Russia, Yugoslavia and did mission work in Haiti. Ten years after retiring, Bob and Jean moved to the Villages Retirement Community in central Florida in 2002. Bob was a young-at-heart, incredibly charismatic person who never met a stranger. They immediately made many new friends. Bob and Jean participated in a number of the Villages social and sports activities, and especially liked tooling around in their golf cart. Devout Catholics, Bob and Jean were very active in their church, and following her death, he attended Mass every day. Bob lived a full and wonderful life. Even through declining health, he maintained his sense of humor and was able to live independently. Two weeks before his heart of gold finally gave out, he was enjoying a family reunion with more than 35 relatives. Family was so important to him, and he was thrilled to have the family all together for this happy occasion. Bob is survived by his cousin, Audrey Goodenough, and his eight children: David (Doreece), Shirley (Bobby), Michael (Charlene), Steve (Kathy), Jim (Pam), Linda (Duke), Doug (Denise) and Lisa (Barry). Bob also has 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Family will receive friends at Kraeer Funeral Home, 1 North State Road 7, Margate, FL on Friday, April 11, 6:00-8:00 pm. A Requiem Mass will be held Saturday, April 12, 11:00 am, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1400 South State Road 7, North Lauderdale, FL. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. There will be a church hall reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert J. Miller's name to Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church (954) 971-5400. Arrangements by Kraeer Funeral Home, Margate www.kraeermargate.com
