Betty Jean Bryan Coleman, 91, of Asheville, NC died peacefully, May 6, 2014 surrounded by family at her home. Born in Palm Beach, Florida to the late John Stockton Bryan and Mildred Mack Bryan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. "Pokey" Coleman, Sr., two sons, Richard L. Coleman, Jr. and Stewart B. Coleman and one brother, Gerald Edson Bryan all formerly of Asheville. Mrs. Coleman was a graduate of Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Asheville. She was a member of the Biltmore Forest Country Club and had been involved with many social and charitable organizations throughout her life. She is survived by her son, Thomas W. Coleman and his wife, Pam of Asheville; a brother, J. Stockton Bryan of Stewart, Florida; two daughter-in-laws, Maureen Coleman of Atlanta and Gay Coleman of Asheville; grandchildren, Richard Lee Coleman, III and Kelly Coleman Prewitt, both of Atlanta, Whitney Coleman Israel, Amanda Coleman Franklin and Colin Thomas Coleman, all of Asheville; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, and her very special caregivers of more than eight years, Kathy Avilla, Garren Ivers and Mary Fairchild. Private Interment was held at Lewis Memorial Park in Asheville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Memory Care of Asheville, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803.
