Wulkan, David Lee, 56, of Boca Raton, Florida died November 22, 2011, after courageously battling leukemia. His family and friends were at his side when he succumbed at MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston, Texas. The eldest of five children, David was born February 17, 1955, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Marilyn and Hubert Wulkan. Growing up, David was a role model for his siblings who adored and looked up to him. David enjoyed playing clarinet, scouting, baseball, tennis and camping with his family. David married the love of his life, Darlene Samuels on May 9, 1982. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh where he also played varsity tennis. After receiving his Medical Degree from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine, he completed a General Surgery Residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was certified by the ARDMS as a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). Dr. Wulkan served academically as a Voluntary Faculty member at the University of Miami/Miller School of Medicine as well as Clinical Assistant Professor of Biomedical Science at the Florida Atlantic University Regional Campus of the University of Miami/Miller School of Medicine. He was an active member of the Department of Surgery at Boca Raton Regional Hospital and had served as President of the Medical Staff and Chief of Surgery. He was the Chairman of the Continuing Medical Education Department and also served as a member of the Board of Trustees at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. He was also an active member of the medical staff at Delray Medical Center. Dr. Wulkan was a member of the American College of Surgeons, The Florida Vascular Society, The Society for Vascular Surgery, The Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, The International Society of Endovascular Specialists, and the Society For Vascular Ultrasound. David's proudest accomplishment came with the birth of his children, Jessica, an elementary school teacher at Pine Crest School, and Adam, a medical student at the University of Miami. David was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother and uncle, who had a way of brightening a room with his smile and attention to people. He always saw the best in others. David was a gentle, compassionate, caring friend and physician who touched many lives. He was a "Teddy Bear" who was always good for a laugh or a hug. In fact, he was known as "Dr. Shug" in the operating room because he was so sweet. As an avid sports fan, David enjoyed attending sporting events with his family. He also enjoyed playing tennis and golf, and deep fishing with family and friends. He is survived by his wife Darlene and two children, Jessica and Adam; parents Hubert and Marilyn, siblings Jamie (Richard) Morris, Mark (Kristi) Wulkan, Alyssa (Paul) Mattson, and Jonathan (Jamie) Wulkan; nieces and nephews Ashira, Bayla, Moriah, Erik, Shanna, Abigail, Michael, Bryce, Benjamin, and Elana.
