Ball, Orquidia, 68, of Cooper City died January 1, 2013. Incredibly bright and ambitious, Orchid graduated from McArthur High School in 1960 at 16. She worked as a 911 communications supervisor for the City of Miami Police and Fire departments for nearly 30 years. She also worked as an office manager for more than 25 years. Orchid was a driven, hardworking single mother who will be remembered for her unyielding love, immense compassion and wit. Survivors include her loving children and their spouses, Richard and Kelly Ball, and Deborah and Sean Kearns; two granddaughters, Kaylyn Kearns, 3, and Annabelle Ball, 8 months; her mother, Aida Mendoza; her sister, Renee Mendoza; her brother, Richard Mendoza; and her caregiver and dear friend, Piedad Dietz. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Robert Lee Ball. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on January 5, 2013, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Hollywood.
