Sylvia Mathews Obituary

Sylvia Zinnia Davidson Chasick Mathews; Born 8/22/22 Died 2/22/13. Beloved Mother to Jeffrey and Douglas (Diane) Chasick; cherished Aunt to Steve and Ellen Davidson; Harriet, Bobby, Bruce and Leslie Davidson, loving Grandmother to Alex Chasick and dearest Star to so many, close friends and fans, near and far. A natural born entertainer, Sylvia and her second husband Matt Thomas toured as "Matt and Sylvia-The Notables" and brought music and joy to nightclubs throughout the Northeast. She was never happier than when, with Matt at the piano and organ, they were singing and joking with their loving fans. When Matt passed on, Sylvia soon found another opportunity to entertain people: as co-owner of a food truck! Sylvia and Sherry Duffy (Alex's Mom) became the favorite purveyors of food and fun in the Atlanta area. Finally, as a true New Yorker, she moved to Century Village and later to The Forum at Deer Creek in Deerfield Beach, FL where she once again entertained friends and guests alike by calling Bingo several days a week. Her favorite lament was "I'm too young to be here - this place is full of old people!" as she Face-timed her kids on her iPad." Services will be private.

You and Matt graciously let me follow you around and play trumpet with you. It was one of the highlights of my life to play with such great musicians.
You made me feel very welcomed.

Dearest Doug and Jeff, Barbara Cornell here. I have just discovered my STAR has passed. I've been trying to find her for many months now. Yesterday was her birthday. I sent her a card. I was the #1 fan of Sylvia and Matt. I made the record with them many years ago. How can I get in touch with you±?
I loved Sylvia like a mother and her voice was one in a million. love, Barbara Cornell

Sylvia, like no other. No one could ever forget this diamond among zirconias! How I wish I'd known her when she was singing with Matt. Alas, I met her after Matt had gone. I treasured her friendship and love. RIP Sylvia, the world will be less bright.
