Ellin J. Rubel, 69, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Santa Rosa, California on Thursday February 28, 2013. She was born in New York on April 10, 1943 to Joseph and Mary Silverman. She grew up in Brightwaters, Long Island, New York and moved to Hollywood, Florida with her family at age 13. She was a graduate of South Broward High School (Class of 1960) and attended secretarial college in Miami, Florida. She spent most of her professional career working in the office of the Attorney General of the State of Florida as a paralegal secretary until her retirement. Ellin was an active member of the Church of the Little Flower in Hollywood for nearly 60 years and was involved in many civic organizations. Ellin was known for her devotion and loyalty to her family and friends and for her sense of humor and enthusiastic approach to life. Having been preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her son Aaron Rubel of Emeryville, California; her sister Jane Silverman Mason (Ralph) of Verbena, Alabama; and three brothers: Edward Silverman (Nancy) of Santa Rosa, California John Silverman (Judy) of San Diego, California; and James Silverman of Davie, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Broward Outreach Center. A memorial mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Little Flower in Hollywood, Florida on Thursday April 18 at 10am.
