David R. Paley, 87, died at his home in Lauderdale by the Sea, surrounded by his family. He was born October 3, 1926, in New York City, the son of Harry and Anna Paley. He graduated from New York University and received his J.D and LL.D from New York University Law School. During the Second World War, he served in the European theater, where he was involved with liberating a concentration camp in Bavaria. He worked for the United States Department of Labor and was active in the liberal wing of the Republican Party. He served as assistant campaign manager for Jacob K. Javits and then as one of Mr. Javits' assistant attorneys general for the State of New York. He formed Berman, Paley Goldstein & Kannry, LLP, where he specialized in construction law until his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Dorita; daughter Staci (Christopher Smith) Paley; step-daughters Vicki Gatanis and Kate (Eamon) Dolan; his grandchildren Christopher and Alethea Buchal, his step-grandson Oscar Dolan; his sister Louise (Rudy) Lahnstein, brother Stanley (Mike Golin) Paley and a multitude of loving New York and Rhode Island family members. We will all miss his presence. The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice. A memorial will be held at a later date.
