Wm. Douglas Bomford

Bomford, Wm. Douglas passed away on September 17, 2013 at the age of 88. He was born on February 16, 1925 in Wallasey, England. Douglas served in Britans\'s Royal Air Force during WWII taking part in the D-Day landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944. In 2012, he was awarded the Medal of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, as ordered by the President of France, for his part in the liberation of that country. Douglas joined the Pacific Steam Navagiation Company in 1946, with his career taking him to live in Chile, Panama and Peru before joining a U. S. Shipping Company and moving to Florida in 1970. Douglas was proud to serve as President of the Ft. Lauderdale branch of the Royal British Legion for a number of years. An avid Ballroom and Square Dancer, he was President of the Westernaires Square Dance Club for eight years and was dancing weekly with the Jackpots Square Dance Club of Hollywood until his illness this summer. Douglas had sung in the choir of Plantation Community Church for the past ten years. He is survived by his loving wife, Angela; three children, Michael(Patricia) Bomford, Suzanne (Miles) Dickson and Malcolm (Deborah) Bomford and seven grandchildren. A Celebration of life service will be Monday, September 23, 2013 at 2:00PM at the Plantation Community Church. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where his grandson Sean Bomford is currently a patient. Donations can be made at www.stjude.org.
