Clara (Kunka) Schopler, 96 passed away peacefully on January 12, 2014. She was the loving wife of the late James Paul Schopler. Born in Dayton, Ohio on May 1, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Blase and Alice (Worka) Kunka. For nearly 70 of her 96 years, she lived in Hollywood, Florida. She had an interesting career working for various companies in many capacities. Kroger Comapny as personnel manager, at DELCO, a Division of General Motors, owned a small local newspaper "The Star Shopper", Gottschaldt & Associates, the Broward County Tax Assessors Office, and was Senator William Zinkil's personal secretary. In semi-retirement she worked for her son, Dr. Thomas A. Schopler, as a secretary in his dental office until she and her husband opened a bookstore called the "Book Mart" where they specialized in selling first edition copies as well as collectible art. She loved singing and enjoyed music her entire life. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe with her son, Dr. Thomas Schopler and his wife, Beth. She greatly enjoyed family gatherings at her daughter Sue's home. Her pride and joy were her children and their accomplishments. She did not hesitate to remark that she had "raised three Doctors (all dentists) and a dental hygienist". The Schopler family was photographed and featured on a postcard for the City of Hollywood. She belonged to Sinawiks, Soroptomist, and was past president of the St. Therese Guild at the Church of the Little Flower in Hollywood. She is survived by her son, Dr. Thomas A. Shopler (Beth), her daughter, Susan Barnett (Dr. Michael Barnett). She was the beloved grandmother of Michael Schopler, Stephen Shopler (Jennifer), Ryan Buckalew (Andrea), Eva Wilson (Jason), Michael J. Shopler, Rachel Shopler, Richard Barnett (Michelle) and Greg Barnett. She leaves behind 7 great-grandchildren with two more great-grandchildren due soon. She is pre-deceased by two of her sons, Dr. James F. Schopler and Dr. Lawrence R. Schopler. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Nativity Catholic Church, 5220 Johnson St., Hollywood Florida on Saturday February 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. followed by internment at Fred Hunters Memorial Gardens in Hollywood. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity closest to your heart. Prayers to St. Therese of Lisieux in her memory will be appreciated.
