Carey Albert (Bert) Myers, born February 17, 1945, passed away unexpectedly on June 17 in Tsawwassen.

Born in Vancouver to parents Norma (Dobson) and Carey Joseph Myers, Carey grew up to study at both Trinity Western University and UBC, before finding his way to a much-loved career in air traffic control.

That path led him to postings around the country, including several years as an instructor at the national training facility in Cornwall, Ont., before returning to his beloved B.C. and ultimately retiring from the area control centre in Richmond in 2000.

Carey kept active in his retirement by pursuing a passion for family history research, building a family tree with details reaching back several generations to ancestors around the world, in particular England, Norway, Hawaii and First Nations communities in B.C.

He is predeceased by both of his parents and foster brother Arthur Evans, and is survived by his wife Glenda Myers, his children Christina Aker (Victor), Katie Odermatt (Kevin), Daniel Myers, and Richard Myers (Katherine), as well as his three grandchildren Lizzie, Emily and Michael.

Friends and family are welcome to gather for a celebration of his life at his home in Tsawwassen from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 23. At his request, there will be no formal service.

His family takes great comfort in knowing that he'll now be happily exploring the final remaining family-tree mysteries that remained elusive to him in life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. (
